Rear Springs

I have a 69 C-10 long bed. It was used on a farm for years. The rear is really bouncy. I haven't changed the shocks yet. Shouldn't the rear springs have more tension? Can springs simply wear out over time? What have you guys seen? Thanks

Rear leaf springs can weaken , flatten , sag or any one of the leaves can fracture or break. Need to have a good check especially if used to carry heavy loads as is very common with farm trucks

They were bouncy as heck. New shocks should help (some).

My truck actually has coil springs. Probably same result over time. Thanks

Apologies , I wrongly assumed it may have had rear leaf springs which apparently was an option on that year / model

" After reading through this I was hoping to get more clarification with my 69 C10 but I feel a bit more confused. Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to owning my truck and am trying to learn as much as I can...my confusion is that my long bed appears to have BOTH coils and leaf springs for the rear suspension. Is this an uncommon thing? Thanks for any help "

" I have several Salesmen Order-guides from 67 on. It clearly states Coils standard , leaf optional on Chevrolet C-10 "

" As stated above, Chevy was the opposite....coils were standard but you could get leafs, ...if you ordered them. "

Coil-over shocks would really stiffen it up. Also, new coils would be easy to install.

Buy some high quality shocks. They will dampen that jouncy rebound. You'll experience a big difference.

I have a 69 long bed with coil springs as well.

I suggest starting with the shocks. You can get fancy with them or not, personal choice. I have fairly standard shocks on mine and it does fine.

I did replace the springs a couple of years ago; 50 years on them can weaken them. I needed to replace the trailing arms anyway, so why not. Growing up on a farm - I can guarantee the truck was often overloaded, so your springs could be worn out as well.

I have a '66 c10 long bed. my drivers side rear coil was weak and actually had a board jammed in it to "stiffen it up" (apparently). I ordered variable rate (supposedly 1/2 half ton and 1/2 three quarter ton) rear springs through LMC trucks I believe along with gas shocks all around and my handling and load hauling is no doubt better than new. Great low cost long term fix.
