Has anyone swapped out the manual for a power steering box on a 61 C10 without breaking the bank? Seems like there are kits for $550 Just looking for the box only, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If your looking at power steering, you will need the adapter plate to your frame, these plates move the box up and out positioned correctly on the frame, without it the truck will steer sharper to the right than the left and if mounted to high the steering link with interfere with the frame, additionally the plate keeps the frame from stress relief cracking which it will do....probably the reason everyone sells kits now...you can just by the adapter plates supply your own box you`ll need to figure out the pitman arm, ( length and hole size, they can ream the steering link end out, you may have to change out the steering link completely from a later model c10.

Thanks, he's been working on it for over a year now. He just turned 16 and he did all the paint work. He's pretty amazing.

Nice job...by the way the early sixties trucks had a power assist steering setup, if you could find one of those units its just a bolt on to your existing gear..just a pump and a ram that bolts to the steering link...just happen to remember this..they started using them in `58 to 66...passenger cars as well same unit..

power steering

I found the adapter plates on e-bay and then went to junkyard and bought 1986 c-1o power steering pump and gear box with arm . Try youtube you will find detailed directions.
