Hello,

I have an 86 C10 (305/700R4) and I've been hearing a strange metal on metal clicking noise when starting to drive forward from a stop. It only clicks once and only from a stop (all other speeds/gears are fine). The truck drives and responds as normal, so I'm thinking it's something in the driveshaft, maybe a U-Joint???
The carrier bearing is relatively new, but could it cause such a noise?

Thank you!
Chuck

I would inspect u-joints first, use a pry bar and see if they move around while prying them, also if the u-joints look good start looking at brakes, does the sound start when you release your foot from the brake..?

No, it comes right after the truck starts moving forward and the slack is removed from the driveshaft. I figured U-Joints but haven't ever heard a U-Joint make this noise. Lol

Could also be slack in ring and pinion gears .
