I`m a little confused as well when he said condenser...Is this a HEI or points style distributor..?

Some times the HEL coil on the top has a broken ground or lead wire in the cap and is not readily seen, when you do a continuity check on the cap with the coil removed will it become apparent, offshore cheap caps have poor lead wired built into the caps..for further testing

The (condenser) is that of sorts, it suppresses radio electrical noise, static, if your old enough you`ll remember them being hooked to the early coils, actually I haven't seen one on a HEI before. Your HEI have you checked the center electrode that is on the underside of the cap where it touches the rotor, its spring loaded, ensure that it is not stuck up inside of the cap. just lightly press on it so that it springs back out.
