Sad day for my 77 C10. Went for about a 50 mile ride, enjoying my old truck and the nice weather that day. Zero issues and she purred like a kitten. Then the next morning upon start up there was an immediate hard knocking on top of the passenger side of the engine and a definite skip. I am assuming it is a stuck valve. Gonna pull the valve cover when it quits raining to confirm. I am praying that I can get the valve out with a tool and replace (assuming everything else is ok). Fingers crossed! It ran strong and purred nicely until this sudden event. Breaks my heart😔

Saw a few videos where there is a hand tool to grab the valve through the valve train without disassembling the heads, intake, etc. Then slipping the new valve back into place. With 50/50 luck/success rate it seems, I might be able to save (or at least put off a rebuild) if it works. But even if the cam and all else is ok it’s no guarantee. Just hoping to get more time on the motor.

I am a total brain dead idiot at times! I meant to say a stuck lifter! I will know for sure after the weather clears and I can pull the valve cover. Sorry for the confusing word/part choice…😞 And thanks guys.

yes, you can pull a lifter with a small slide hammer and the correct adapter. you may also have bent a pushrod, loosened or broken a rocker. hopefully the issue is under the valve cover and not in the block. let us know what you see.

Flopshot is right on , But I would to add the 350 will instantly start missing and running rough as I experienced , turned out to be a flat cam resolved replaced cam and lifters

If you are going to need an engine, are you wanting to stay with a period correct engine? If yes, I have a small journal 327 engine available. It has later model heads. I looked up the casting number and the stamped number on the pad in the front of the engine and it is a yr. 67, 327 . I also have some 350 bare blocks that you can build. Where are you located? I am in Tulare, CA 93274. [email protected] Larry Thompson

I am all the way on the other coast in Georgia Larry. I have several good local options. I am torn to LS swap or not as well if I have to replace the engine. At heart I am somewhat of a purist I suspect, as I already lined up an LS swap not long ago and backed out. But thanks for the offer man.
