my 70 c10 has a amp meter that doesn't work.. I've applied 12v to it and it wiggles both ways.. What drives that gauge and where does it come from.??? I've changed the circuit board on the gauges with no avail. any help will be great help !! thanks

your wiring diagrams helped a lot !! found a broken wire at a fuse link -- Simple fix once located !! Thank you for your help.. :)

As you can see from the wiring diagram, all of the current with the exception of cranking the starter, goes through that gauge. Those gauges have been know to be the source of dashboard fires. I think that I am going to bypass the one in my dash and add a Voltmeter to monitor alternator function and battery charging.

I too have seen this happen but only when something else over loads them. A volt meter is a safer unit to have.
Had `62 409 impala once that burned up because of the amp gauge / wire issues..
