Working on a 61 Shortbed I picked up last fall in North Carolina.
Like most projects its slow going, but I thought I would share some pics.
It also should stop the emails reminding me I haven't posted anything LOL.

The cab looked a lot more solid from underneath when I was buying it

Found a pretty decent bed that needs a floor

I found an 87 C-10 chassis for $100,installed the front crossmember and Power Steering box with a Rez adaptor

An unexpected surprise is the amount of rust in the roof area and the 8 hours it took me to get the roof skin off, plus the half dozen mice nests.

That's about as far as I am at this point, repairing the roof skin hoping I don't ruin it.
I'll update as I go along, hoping for a decent driver when done

I drove a 61 short bed fleetside for a few years. I installed a 73 front suspension & crossmember in it. used the stock manual steering. the rear end had a wheel bearing go bad and ruined the axle & housing. So I installed a 3/4 rear from a 62 GMC. 8 hole on back and 5 hole on front. Then the little 318 Muncie three speed bit the dust. So I installed a granny low M420 trans. did away with the Hyd clutch release when I installed a v8 and used 63 mechanical clutch linkage and engine mounts . I was running heavy equiptment at the time. and drove that truck 6 days a week for 9 months to Jonesboro Ar every day. worked a 10 or12 hour day. 100 miles a day round trip. The clutch started slipping and finally it wouldn't pull any longer. So I had someone press the pedal to the floor and took apart clothpins and used them like little wooden wedges. drove then between the stripped of lining clutch disk and flywheel. drove it a few days without any clutch. start it up in granny low and float the gears when shifting. I sold the truck to a guy who put the body on a 1961 4wheel drive chassis. his cab & bed where beat to pieces. I now have a rough 60 or 61 in my collection. kinda odd truck came factory with a V8 powerglide and big back glass. short bed fleetside. and not a bit of chrome or stainless trim?

Its been slow going with this roof repair.

I got the roof skin back on and trying to get the rain gutter straight I screwed up taking the skin off is time consuming,

A little body work started on the cab. It was beat up pretty good, but did give me an excuse to buy a stud welder/puller at harbor freight.

I'm going to install an aftermarket heat/ac unit and an EZ wiring harness so I welded up the firewall.

Finally got the first coat of epoxy primer on the cab

I got a free 5.3 ls engine last week and a 2002 gmc parts truck with a 4.8 for next to nothing.

I originally was going to put one of my Pontiac 400 engines in it.

But last year I put a 5.3 in a S10 and it worked pretty well and I'm becoming a fan of these engines.

With my very slow and mediocre body work skills I have plenty of time to decide

Not much progress, I am unable to get the roof rail gutters straight and sent it out to a pro.
Found a nice set doors so he's going to hang them and cut in the cab and repaint my mediocre interior paint job.

Meanwhile I'm collecting ls parts,5.3,4l60.

Does anyone know if a 2003 10 bolt carrier and gears (3.73) will fit in an 87 10 bolt housing (currently 2.73)?

Bud I don`t believe they will, but you`ll need to confirm that with a driveline specialist,,,,
