A first time here so hello to all. I have a 1970 C10 with 3speed with 250 I6. . About to rebuild the non tilt 3spd Column shift Steering Column. When looking through my (Haynes) repair manual. I see that the preload spring and washer has a gap of .50 + or - .02. With a shifter lever gap of .33 -.36. What I do not see illistrated or in the written steps is a measurement for how far the lower Bearing slides up the shaft. Anyone know thet spec or are their a high point that stops the bearing where it supposed to be? Do I just get it in the general area where the steering wheel nut tightening and the Lower bearing adjustment will take the slack out? Thanks a bunch.

I rebuilt a lot of those columns but it was years ago.Memory tells me the bearing is held in by the spring pressure.I used to adust the levers by feel by loosening the 3 screws and tapping it around till play was gone
