Yes, both were rescues I adopted last year. Found out my 5 foot chain link was just an easy hop. Had to extend the fence to 8 foot, which costs almost $5K!
Then....the stupid fence guy adjusted my gate hardware by the street...the dog liked to run at the fence and run back and forth when people walked by. She runs at the gate..and the hardware was loose, gate opens up..and she attacks the dog being walked by an elderly couple! Guy got bit trying to stick his hand between the dogs. I ended up paying $2300 in vet bills for their dog. She never had a real home and was defending it...
I adopted Sansa first. She is a female Belgium Malinois and was found wandering the streets of Los Angeles. Half her hair was gone from fleas and nervous scratching. She was young and starving..weighed 42 lbs..
After the shelter, she was rescued by The Woof Project and fostered for a bit in California, then brought to Washington State where she had another foster family and evaluation. Then I adopted her. The foster in California did a DNA test and turns out she is a rare pure bred blue Malinois. They call it blue, even though she is brown. A very expensive, desirable dog. I've had many pure bred German Shepherds and other dogs, but she was the fastest dog I had owned! That was, until after her spay and I adopted Ueli, the male dog...
This is the first day we met. His foster mother traveled from Utah with him the day before. I picked him up the next morning. You can see how small and young he looks. A year later and he's about 75 lbs of muscle!
First night in new home..
Ueli(yoo-lee) is a male Malinois... He was pretty skinny and came from Utah through The Woof Project as well. Transportation plans fell through with covid just starting, so the foster drove him all the way here from Utah. He has long legs, but is very deceiving..he likes to sleep and lay around. Very mellow, kick back dog.
They were both picked for me, due to their mellow personality. I had moved back home to help mom, and she had recently passed at that point last year.
A lady down the street at a garage sale, gave me a dog frisbee..thats what started it all. They absolutely loved it! We go through a lot of frisbees. We play frisbee 3 to 4 times a day. Don't matter if it's middle of winter.
Or night time..
It's always frisbee time..unfortunately the yard got thrashed, but is recovering.
Ueli with his long legs is the fastest dog I've seen! I thought Sansa was fast(and she is), but Ueli can smoke her all day long.
It's been a year and they're best of friends now. They are getting used to having a real home and have mellowed out a lot. No more trying to escape and run away.
