Hi guy's, I'm New Here. Does anyone know ? Do I replace Are Wash Out The Oil Filter On My 56 chevy 1/2 Ton, 6 cylinder Motor?

Change it!!! Wix or Fram supplied the after market bypass system. Not the best but better than nothing. I really thought they went to screw on in 54 when they introduced the fully pressurized system. Could be my memory is failing!! LOL!!

YES change the filter, and clean out the can it sits in.

Br sure and replace the square o ring, sometimes hard to get out. If I remember correctly someone makes a adaptor to allow you to use modern spin on filters.

If I remember correctly, the filter was a "Option" in `1955, in 1956 they went to a "Full Flow" oil system and the oil filter was in a Canister mounted in the normal small block place. It was quite a juggling act to get the filter, canister ,square o ring and long bolt with a gasket under the bolthead all lined up correctly so it wouldn't leak. My first OSM (oh shit man) moment was when I didn't remove the o ring and just put the new one in and had a tremendous oil leak ( Gusher).when I started it up!! I think I was 16 at the time on my first job after school...
