I need some help identifying a 12 bolt rear end that was installed by a previous owner into a 1962 C10 that I purchased. I bought it as an in progress project. I'm trying to figure out what I have.
The problem that I am having is that the trailing arm mounts appear to be too narrow for the 1962. I think that it may be a 67 or 68 truck rear end because is was a trailing arm design with a pan hard bar mount on the right side of the housing, i would have to pull the trailing arms together in order to bolt it in and if I do that the shock mounts will not line up. If I've researched correctly isn't the 62 frame wider than a 1967?
The axle tube states RA 02 09 (weird cricked W looking symbol) 2.
Casting # 3896838 GM56
back of the diff on right side appears to state A38 but not clear.
also the axles are 6 bolt wheel lugs.
I would like to ID the rear, is the axle narrower or wider than what was in the 1962? If they are the same width and since the mounts are too narrow I would like to remove them and extend them out further.
Does anyone have a measurement (outer tube/backing plate to the mounts) that has done a 12 bolt swap? Thank you
