Do yourself a favor and research your trucks VIN to see what you really have. The frame has two spots one on the Driver side top frame horn area then the other under the Drivers side Cab. * * * Pic below shows locations.
If I recall leaf spring trucks are 3/4 ton and 1/2 tons use trailing arms with coil springs, there might be some "exceptions" though but others with better answers will/might chime in with an answer for you.
As for money spent to lower a truck it all depends on how you want it to "Handle" and or "Look". Some look great but handle like $ h ! t. But like always it depends on how much you are willing to spend on an "50+ year old truck". Condition of your truck "Dictates" where to start. How thick is your wallet guy, LOL
