Default Grandpa’s 1960 C10 running?

Like title says, I’ve inherited my grandfathers 1969 Chevy Apache. Or atleast I think it’s a 60 based on what I could find with the VIN.
He bought it new in 60 and kept it on his farm until it was towed to my home about 15 years ago. It ran at that point but not reliably. I rebuilt the carburetor.

Fast forward to now. I’d like to get it running. I kinda like the motor but want to make it more reliable, then lower it with air bags and throw on some big steel rims and tires.

How should I get started? Should I ditch the carb, fuel and ignition and just go new? How should I tackle the suspension? I don’t see a kit for 60’s.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gonna be a lot of custom work on a 60 to lower it, the suspension was totally different.

If you want to drop it, bag it, slam it with a z up front and a c-notch in the rear, you better get a 64-66.

As for getting it running... clean out the fuel system from tank, the lines, the filters up to the carb... and the carb itself.

Check out all the electrical connections from the switch to the engine... the battery, the grounds.

make sure you are getting spark and fuel to the carb.

also, change out the old fluids too.

That should be a starting point for you.

good luck.

How do I figure out which motor I have in this thing? Any stamps or markings on it? Need to order a carb, distributor and related things.

Ditch that old motor. If it’s in your budget, go LS or LT. You’ll thank me later...

Got plans for a powertrain in a year or two. Just want to get it running and suspension working for now.

I agree with Woogeroo, get a later model if you're going to do serious suspension upgrades, there is no kit available because it has torsion bars in the front, no springs. Unless you have lots of money and/or fabrication skills. You could get some rear lowering springs and and adjust the torsion bars to drop it some, relatively inexpensive. And can be easily reversed if need be.

There should be a tag on the left footwell that has chassis/motor information.

This is just my opinion: If the truck is original (I can't see your pictures), leave it original or at least to the point it can be reversed. Once it's modified it's no longer original. Too many people get upside down in the value of their vehicles with modifications. With that said, it's your truck and your welcome to do as you like.

Good info Tomanytoys. Thanks for the comments. Didn’t know about the tag inside. I’ll check it out.
Was looking at the PB Fab front and rear to get things started. Then go from there. Want to get the motor running for now because I’m not going to do anything with that for a year or two.
